Who are your Auckland DJ’s?
Our DJ’s are highly professional and skilled. Auckland DJ has a wide range of DJ's, skilled to cater to all different age groups and musical tastes. One thing that sets our DJ's apart from the rest is that they can read the atmosphere of the room and play the right music at the right time.
I'm going to need a lot of guidance as I’m planning the music for my event. Can you help?
One of the most important services we offer, which is part of every entertainment package, is assistance and advice from our years of experience. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to ask!
May we meet with you before we commit to your services?
Absolutely. Often an initial consultation is a good way for us to get to know you and your needs. It also helps you to get to know us and talk through any questions or concerns you may have.
How far in advance should I reserve my date?
During our busy periods (Wedding, School Ball, Christmas Party season’s) we generally begin booking dates anywhere from 2 to 18 months in advance. Since we can only perform at a limited amount of events per weekend, we strongly recommend that you contact us as soon as possible to check on the availability status of your date. By the same token, if for some reason you find yourself in a situation where you need a DJ last-minute, please call us. We'll make every possible effort to help you.
How much of a deposit do you require to confirm our booking?
To secure all bookings we take a 25% non-refundable deposit.
When is the final amount we owe due?
The remaining 75% is due the day prior to the function/event. We will issue an invoice at least seven days prior to the due date.
Can we visit you at a performance?
Unfortunately not. We respect each of our clients’ privacy and it would be unprofessional to invite people to someone else’s event whom they don’t know.
May we speak to your past clients?
Definitely. We have past clients who are more than happy to provide a testimonial. Alternatively, check out our testimonial page HERE.
Do you act as an MC and make announcements?
Absolutely. Please let us know prior to the day if you require any MC duties to be provided so we can prepare as much as possible.
When do we need to submit our music requests and event details?
Ideally these would be received at least four-five working days prior to the function/event so we can ensure we are prepared and have everything we need.
Do you provide music for Wedding ceremonies?
We often provide the ceremony music, and that’s one of the reasons our sound systems are so compact; if you’re having the ceremony in a separate area, it takes only minutes to move them from one place to another. Processionals, recessionals and other classical pieces sound amazing through our systems.
Our cocktail hour is going to be in a separate room from the main event. Is that a problem?
That’s no problem at all. We have lots of different, versatile sound systems that cater to different events. Our smaller “cocktail hour” sound systems are discrete and easily set up/packed down.
If we book you for a certain amount of hours and then decide that night that we’d like you to perform longer, is that a problem and what is your overtime charge?
We are happy to DJ overtime provided it works for all parties (DJ, venue, client). Our overtime charge is $150 + GST per hour.
What if we want to hear a song that’s not on any of your playlists?
Not a problem. We have access to download hundreds of thousands of songs through the iTunes online store. If the song you’re after isn’t in the iTunes store, talk to us.
If I request a song on the night and you don’t have it, can you download it?
Absolutely. Provided a 3G connection is present we can access the iTunes store to download nearly ANY song.
How much choice do I have in the music selection?
As much, or as little as you'd like. Occasionally couples decide to hand-pick each and every song that's played at their reception, which is perfectly fine, but it's not necessary. We'll ask you to highlight as many specific songs and genres that you like to hear and ask you lots of questions about your preferences. With this information, we'll use our experience to build on your requests and play the right music at the right time.
My family is Samoan and my fiancé's is Irish. Can you provide that kind of music?
We often perform at weddings where specific types of ethnic music are requested. If there are specific songs you'd like to hear that we don’t have, we’ll gladly get that music to you (as long as it's still available). Or, if you have the music, we can work with your collection.
There are songs that we definitely don’t want played at our wedding. How do we make certain that we won't hear those wretched tunes?
We'll strongly encourage you to give us a "don't play" list of music, and your DJ will absolutely abide by it. You won't hear any unwelcome surprises like ‘Gangnam Style’ at your event.
Do you play guests' requests?
That's completely up to you. If it's okay, we'll play whatever your guests want to hear. If, however, you'd prefer that your DJ not take requests, that's also fine. If a guest requests a song that might “kill” the mood we will use our professional judgment as to when we play the request.
How many songs can you play per hour?
The average song is about three to four minutes long, so you can figure that approximately 12 to 15 songs can be played per hour.
I'm concerned about the volume level. How do you effectively control it?
We're very conscious of the fact that no one wants to listen to music at an uncomfortably high volume, and that people have different sensitivity levels. That's why we'll constantly monitor the sound intensity throughout the course of your event. Our dynamic sound systems allow us to create an environment that's conducive to both dancing and socialising.
What time will the DJ set up?
Setting up is a very painless process. If acceptable we can set up an hour prior to starting however if you require us to set up earlier in the day this is fine (we do have an early set up fee).
Do you take breaks?
Nope. You'll hear continuous music from beginning to end - an uninterrupted flow of music.
What is your policy on consuming alcohol and smoking while DJ’ing?
We will never drink or smoke while entertaining. We are professionals and carry ourselves as such.
What will you wear to our function/event?
We will always dress to the event. If it’s a wedding or corporate event we will wear dress pants and a shirt. If it’s a 21st we’ll be a little more relaxed in very smart casual attire.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Our sound, lighting and visual equipment is state of the art. A lot of the brands of the equipment we use have won awards for innovation and excellence. For more information please feel free to ask and we can talk “geek” with you.
Do you provide a microphone?
Yes our packages include a wireless microphone. If you need a lapel microphone you must let us know prior to the day as we don’t often carry these on us.
My sister has a great voice and would like to sing at the reception. Is that possible?
You bet. We’ll have a microphone available for her and she can either sing acapella or we can play a song in the background while she sings over it.
Do you put up any signs or banners?
Absolutely not! We’ll be at your event to entertain, not to advertise.
What if, due to an emergency, something happens and you can’t make it to DJ at our event?
In the highly unlikely event that your DJ is unable to perform due to a severe emergency situation, we can assure you that your entertainment will be provided exactly as planned; we have talented, experienced DJ’s on-call 24-hours-a-day just in case this extremely rare situation arises. In the numbers years of doing business, we've never missed a performance.
Will the DJ require a meal?
That’s your choice. Customarily clients do provide a meal for their DJ.
